DP Community new academic year welcome

Welcome back as we begin the academic year – and a particularly warm welcome to all new DP Coordinators, we look forward to your involvement in our Community. We meet once a term on Zoom (Thursdays, 16:30) to discuss particular topics that help navigate as many aspects of DP coordination as possible. You are all very welcome to attend, to contribute, to share and ask any question that come to mind – or just find your feet. All meetings are recorded and available to watch later on our shared Google Drive . IBSCA will send the link to the Zoom meeting as well as the Google Drive in advance of each meeting.

In this first term, I would like to focus on offering the best possible start to everyone new to coordination, by tapping into the vast experience and knowledge of our more experienced coordinators. Our first session is therefore dedicated to a general catch-up and the issues ‘of the day’, but also resources and top tips for new coordinators.

Pupil Wellbeing will be the next focus – not just because school inspectors like to look at this area, but because we know that it is paramount to DP pupils’ success; so let’s share what we do to support, encourage and help pupils to navigate the challenges of the two year course.

Not to be missed is our meeting with the IB World School Managers, who will explain their role and the levels of support they can offer – and possibly how to navigate school evaluation preparation.

Language A self-taught school supported can be a great opportunity for schools to offer a manageable course to pupils, but it can also be a daunting prospect. Let’s hear from schools how they are making it happen!

Plans for the next term include a look at the new ToK guide, integration of ToK into the subject lessons and much more – keep your ideas and requests coming and thank you all for your attendance, contributions and willingness to share your ideas and projects!
