MYP Coordinator Community Update
The MYP community is now entering its 4th year. It was established by IB World Schools to draw together MYP schools in the UK to develop practice, share ideas, work through challenges and support each other. Its success has been used by the IB as a blueprint for MYP communities around the world!
The community builds its own agenda based upon the needs of the group, prioritizing the areas of focus, such as the Community Project, approaches to learning, assessment, and service as action. Community members share their experience and practice whilst the group ask questions and share challenges. This strategy has built a strong community that supports and collaborates to improve programme implementation for all. The group has a membership that ranges from schools that have been implementing the MYP for many years to those that are in the process of candidacy. The sharing of ideas across this diversity is key to the successful development of practice for all.
In addition to regular topic-based meetings the group participates in standardization meetings, providing opportunities for teachers from all subject areas to work together as they explore student assessed work, unit planning and assessment practice.
The MYP community regularly attends IBSCA conferences, which are specifically focused upon topics pertinent to the implementation and development of the MYP. This year the community intends to meet at one of its member schools to visit classrooms, discuss topics of interest and celebrate the continued success of the MYP community.
