Seminar Overview:

The History Internal Assessment seminar is designed for DP teachers who wish to expand their skills in supporting and supervising students, as well as develop their expertise in providing useful advice and feedback to students in their Historical Investigation.

Session 1: Elements of Success.

  • Strategies on how to guide your students in choosing the right topics and how to formulate sound research questions.

  • IA logistics (timing, deadlines, preparation sessions)

  • Source selection

  • Research tips

Session 2: The Investigation.

  • How can students get a 13 - 15 in Section B

  • How to structure an argument

  • How to incorporate and evaluate perspectives

  • How to write exemplary reflections and get top marks in Section C

Seminar Details:

  • 3-hour seminar delivered virtually making access easy and convenient.

  • Led by an experienced IB educator who is part of the IBEN network.

  • Limited to one registration per IBSCA member school. There are a limited number of spaces available, if sufficient interest is expressed a second date may be opened or additional spaces added.

  • Offered free as a benefit of IBSCA membership.

Led by:

Alex Bast has ample experience as an IB History examiner (he is currently team leader for the IA and Paper 2 components), as a History teacher, and as a Diploma Programme Coordinator. He holds an MA in History from the University of Barcelona, and an M.Phil in Educational Leadership from the University of Cambridge. He is experienced in teaching, developing and highly experienced in assessing 20th Century DP History, and has led several related workshops worldwide. He is also a DP consultant and a school visitor.
