Approaches to Teaching In-Depth Seminar 1 (IBSCA members) - FULL

Open to educators from IBSCA member schools, our free Seminar series provides an in-depth look at some of the key topics and challenges facing our IB community.

The Seminar is open to experienced IB educators who are interested in deepening their understanding and application of ATLs. We are offering two ATL Seminars this academic year, each focused on different ATLs and how to improve your practice. Please note the Seminar will be delivered by an IB educator experienced in the DP or CP, so examples wil draw heavily from these programmes, though the Seminar is open to IB educators from the MYP and PYP as well.

Seminar Description:

In the first of two seminars, we take a close look at 3 of the 6 Approaches to Teaching:

Teaching based on Inquiry

Teaching focused on Conceptual Understanding

Teaching Informed by Assessment:

  • Structuring the learning process through directed, guided and open inquiry

  • Using concepts to deepen understanding

  • Balancing Assessment OF Learning with Assessment AS Learning and Assessment FOR Learning

Who is this for? These seminars are created for experienced IB educators with a sound understanding of Approaches to Teaching looking to develop their practice further.

Not quite ready for this? Come to the CP/DP community session on Tuesday 26th November. Approaches to teaching: formative and summative assessment in the IB, email us for further details. This meeting will cover, introductory practical tips to include more Assessment AS Learning and Assessment FOR learning in your teaching.

Seminar Details:

  • 3-hour seminar delivered virtually making access easy and convenient.

  • Led by an experienced IB educator who is part of the IBEN network.

  • Limited to one registration per IBSCA member school. There are a limited number of spaces available, if sufficient interest is expressed a second date may be opened or additional spaces added.

  • Offered free as a benefit of IBSCA membership.

Led By:

This seminar will be led by Rebecca Austin-Pickard. Rebecca has been an English teacher for 25 years and has spent much of her career involved in both the DP and CP in equal measure. Since 2006, she has worked as a department lead for Film as well as Language and Literature and Extended Essay before becoming CP coordinator in her school and coordinating the CP global pilot in Kent. Since 2017, she has worked full-time as an IB specialist consultant with roles such as verification and evaluation visitor, workshop facilitator, Lead Educator and IBEN trainer. She is also the author of the ThinkIB CP website, a range of IB professional development workshops for the IB and the textbook 'Reflective Project' published by Hatchette UK. Since 2023, Rebecca has been the CP Network facilitator and CP Lead for IBSCA.
