Digital Society (IBSCA members)

Open to educators from IBSCA member schools, our free Seminar series provides an in-depth look at some of the key topics and challenges facing our IB community.

The Seminar is open to IB Digital Society educators. The Seminar will address the main questions that have arisen from IB educators since the release of the Digital Society guide in February 2022.


Seminar Description:

This seminar will explore connections between Approaches to Teaching and Learning (Digital Society Guide, page 4) and Assessments and how the study of Digital Society supports meaningful experiences that:

• engage students in structured inquiry (DS 5 stages of inquiry)

• promote concurrency of learning (connections to other subjects and areas of learning)

• encourage student agency, self-directed learning and collaboration

• enhance the coherence and relevance of the students’ DP experiences

• prepare students for both internal and external assessments

Inquiry and common External Assessments (SL/HL Paper 1, SL/HL Paper 2)

·       Understanding Digital Society and Inquiry

·       Challenges in teaching and learning the core topics: SL/HL Paper 1

·       Approaches and Guidance for SL/HL Paper 2

·       Resource Collaboration for SL/HL Core and Assessments

Inquiry for HL Extension: Challenges and Interventions (HL Paper 1 Section B, HL Pre-release with HL Paper 3)

·       Understanding HL Extension: Challenges and Interventions

·       Teaching and learning for HL Paper 1 Section B

·       Approaching the HL Pre-release through Inquiry

·       Approaches and Guidance for HL Paper 3

·       Resource Collaboration for HL Extension and Assessments

Ensuring Success on the DS Inquiry Project (SL/HL common Internal Assessment)

·       Understanding the DS Inquiry Project (IA)

·       Sample DS Inquiry Projects

·       Supervising the Digital Society Inquiry Project (IA)

·       Resources and Approaches for Developing the DS Inquiry Project

·       Future on-going DS educator collaborations


Seminar Details:

  • 3-hour seminar delivered virtually making access easy and convenient.

  • Led by an experienced IB educator who is part of the IBEN network.

  • Limited to one registration per IBSCA member school. There are a limited number of spaces available, if sufficient interest is expressed a second date may be opened or additional spaces added.

  • Offered free as a benefit of IBSCA membership.

Led By:

This session will be led by experienced IB educator Barbara Stefanics. Barbara has been involved in IB professional development and supporting IB educators in a wide range of IBEN roles for over 40 years. The most recent engagements emerged with the new DP Digital Society course, including:

  • Series editor/co-author for Digital Society textbook

  • Contributor to Digital Society/ITGS/Learner Profile curriculum reviews

  • Workshop leader / online workshop facilitator including Digital Society/ITGS, ATL, and Extended Essay.

  • Digital Society/ITGS,Technology in the IB classroom workshop and webinar development
